The important part is the in-your-face 'Not only can I theoretically die, it may be going on now' And the checking of soul-state that invokes.
I have to admit, I was annoyed, but never frightened. When I finally do get killed off, everyone can know that I am sure and certain in my salvation. ;)
Prayers from folks here on FR, and my home church, and others probably had an effect.
But my advice is get good doctors, and try to not do that. (stepping off into open space) And be ok with God.

My brother is a born again Christian. He was going through an awful time about 15 years ago when God directed him to go into a church for guidance. Not only did God help him turn his life around, He put my brother in the path to meet his wonderful wife. No doubt that my brother and God are on a first name basis, and he has no fear of the after life.
It is the living that suffer from someone’s death. Although, suffer may not be the right word ~ we know they are in a much better place; we just miss the ones that are gone.
And on that note - when people are asked how they are doing and respond ‘I’m alive’ why does the asker always say ‘Beats the alternative’? Does it really? From what I have heard the alternative is a pretty cool place.
