FWIW, the Astro with that engine had a problem with the fuel pump which is in the fuel tank. The fuel filter would be worth checking if it has a separate fuel filter.
I had an Astro with the 4.3 liter engine that I just got rid of. Built in 93, the drive shaft dropped last year so I junked it. The engine was still running very strong with 210k miles on it.
