Not disputing that at all. What needs to be borne in mind, however, is the non-stop 24/7/365 indoctrination which has been steadily given to *everyone* by the media, Hollyweird, pop culture, et al over the last 50 years.
Consider logically, if you're able to, the idea of 'meeting a moral obligation" when the very atmosphere of your entire society at large questions the very idea of an objective morality. This *would* be confusing, to say the least.
I can vividly recall the initial, sloppy attempts to get *me* to question an objective morality in the late 60's, early 70's. For whatever reason, I cannot definitely say why, I rejected that premise, wholesale back then, and the results of my rejecting it have, quite literally, made me who, and what I am. It has shaped my life in more ways than I care to count, and every day, I find another way my rejecting the, at that time rather crude, brainwashing into accepting a subjective, rather than objective morality has shaped my beliefs, my psychology, everything I am, and hold myself to be.
Did Mc Queary fail a moral obligation, by my lights, yes, because I've held fast to objective morality, despite a maelstrom directed at us all, to get me to separate me from it.
Thus, I am coming to the conclusion, that while I find his actions less than what I would do, I can, at some level, find what Our Lord requires of me, compassion, and forgiveness for his failing, if only because "but for the grace of God, there go I"...

Some things are instinctive, and all the media and government school propaganda in the world can’t change human instinct. Oh, they might succeed in getting some people to pretend, or in getting some people to conform to the chic political correctness of the day, but some things are simply natural and instinctive for human beings.
For example, no matter what the government schools try to drill into kids, kids remain instinctively creeped out by homosexuality. If you’ve ever heard young children proclaim, “That’s so gay”, then you know what I’m talking about. It is tragic that some kids do end up burying their instinctive grip on right and wrong beneath a bogus pile of righteous lies fed to them by malicious adults.
Another example is socialism. Leftists will always believe they can create what Austrian economists called, “the socialist man”. It cannot be done, because human instinct remains rooted in self-preservation. William Bradford’s diaries chronicling the collapse of the ‘Mayflower Compact’ provide an instructive introduction to the folly of socialism. The lefties, however, cannot give up no matter how often they fail. It’s a mental imbalance.
Springing to the aid of a child is similarly instinctive. At least it is for most people. I have no clue what McQueary was thinking when he backed out of that shower and ran to his Dad, but I believe the phrase used in the sports world is, “He choked.”
