Do-it-yourself parking bans in Malibu (Liberals: parking for me not for thee)

...

Veesart is an enforcement supervisor for the California Coastal Commission, one of a handful who have the sometimes impossible job of making sure people can find their way to public beaches.

In beach towns like Malibu, where wealthy homeowners have gone to lengths to block visitors from the majestic shoreline with security guards and locked gates, the toughest thing about spending a day on the sand can be finding a parking spot.

And at times, it's the bogus "No Parking" sign that stands in the way.

The warnings are so prevalent and often so convincing that parking next to a fake sign can get you a real ticket. Even when residents are told to take the signs down, they quickly come back.

"It's like whack-a-mole: you get rid of one and another pops up again," Veesart says. "Anybody can go down to Home Depot and buy a 'No Parking' sign and a 4-foot wooden post, and often it's difficult to tell which ones are legitimate and which ones are not."

The hot spots for phony signs are where the priciest real estate meets the most desirable surf and sand.

"Those are the areas where systemically we have this problem," said Lisa Tent, the senior code enforcement officer in Malibu who has sent pointed letters to homeowners who live near Lechuza Beach, ordering them to remove the signs in front of their homes. Many cooperate, but not always for long.

Typical limousine liberals. Parking for me not for thee.

The OWS clowns need to go protest their buddies in Malibu, Brentwood, or (The Peoples Republic of) Santa Monica. See how tolerant their rich liberal (1%) supporters are then.

Do yourself and read some of the comments on the article. Some of my personal favorites:

krowland98 at 8:05 AM November 10, 2011 "Hey, Occupy LA. This is a much nicer place to pitch your tents than City Hall. It's time to Occupy Malibu, since this is where the most arrogant of 1% you hate so much lives. Say hi to most of the Hollywood elite while you are there."

and

This is like the town of Bolinas in northern California, where the new-age (and some old) hippies take down the road signs and block the road to keep out the tourists. Both Bolinas and Malibu are mostly liberal areas, with people that talk the talk about love for the "common man", but just don't want them around their own paradise.

I have to disagree. I see no difference between SCOTUS’ ruling that Joe can take my house to build a bigger one on what was my land for himself and the state taking your front yard you paid for and opening it to the public.

Huh? What they own and what they bought was a house on a public street with public parking.

Apples and oranges. No one owns the states beaches and you certainly don’t own the roads that the taxpayers pay for! Not to mention the fact that the state has spend millions preventing beach erosion in these areas. There should be a $10K fine for putting up a fake no parking sign on a public right of way.

Hate to break this to ‘ya, bud . . . but “rich folks who think only they are entitled to their beach” (when they are not) comprise a group that spans party lines.

Charlie Harper would never have done this but as soon as Waldo bought the house, up went the signs.

Welcome to western civilization.

Property rights and real estate laws in modern America are largely based on centuries-old principals practiced in Europe.

The concept of riparian landowners *not* being permitted to deny access to major bodies of water is part of that.

In other words it’s against the law (as it always has and always should be) for these homeowners to keep the public away from the shoreline.

"Malibu, where wealthy liberal Democrat homeowners have gone to lengths to block visitors from the majestic shoreline with security guards and locked gates..."

There...fixed it.
