As far as I can tell, no one accused Cain of rape. As far as I can tell, there is indication that the complaint was about workplace behavior.

There are very specific guidelines in all large and small companies about such things.

So, maybe he said something to a woman, she had an over the top sensitivity to whatever it was. He thought it was no big deal. It is really only an issue because it was workplace related. 1999. It is also the last year Cain was with the NRA, wasn’t it?

I don’t think the “complaints” are such a huge deal. It is a bit problematic that there are two of them while he was with the NRA. I think this whole “hang the bit*hes” attitude is way over the top. They didn’t set him up back then for a big ambush in 2011, and it doesn’t seem as though the complaints were very serious. So why treat the women like they were accusing Cain of something very dire - like rape? Lot of overreacting going on I think.

"Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when:

* submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual's employment,

* submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for employment decisions affecting such individuals, or

* such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. (29 C.F.R. § 1604.11 [1980])"

The question then is, are any of these allegations in violation of the legal description of sexual harassment and has the target been convicted of this in a criminal court. Notoriously no one should recognize the actions of a settlement as a basis for anything relating to reality.

This is exactly the case when judgments occur awarding stupid people for scalding their crotches with hot coffee. Otherwise McDonalds would have been sued for serving cold coffee.

Yeah it sets up an interesting quandry for conservatives - if he asked two different women back to his apartment as a married man is that a disqualifier for President? It’s not rape, it’s not Clinton antics in the oval office, but is it behavior we want in our candidate?

There is only one verified complaint, apparently.

Confident women confortable in their skin who are not petty don’t need to make sexual harassment charges. They handle it on the spot. I have sent 2 co-workers back out of my “personal space” with facial evidence of their foolish behavior. (Called a slap mark across the face.) In BOTH instances I was NEVER to be bothered again by the individual OR any other male during my employment at those 2 facilities.

Funny thing is the 2nd incident I was called into human resources. Guy asked if there was anything I needed to tell him. I said no...but I know what I’m here. Am I in trouble? He said no, I’m only going to point out what you did wrong. That is you didn’t report the incident to me, why? I told him I took care of it and figured that guy having to explain to all his co workers..and wife...why he had a hand mark across his face was good enough justice for me. The HR guy laughed and said...I don’t blame you. Just if it happens again let me know. Do you want me to do anything more? I said..NOPE. The idiot who made the pass at me did come in and tell me he was sorry and (this is great) he hoped I didn’t hit my kids that hard. I said, no, only rude men who need it. :)

I keep hearing two - but Cain keeps the focus on just the one. I read a good breakdown about that somewhere yesterday. One was paid $35,000. The other was paid $45,000. He kept referring to just the one though.

Sometimes they don’t take no for an answer.

Once, while working for IBM, a married male co-worker kept pestering me. Everybody commented on it, because he was so aggressive. Everyone heard me consistently and emphatically refuse him.

I did end up going to the “team leader” and telling her. I also told her that if it didn’t stop right fast I would be taking it to HR. The guy was a muslim (LOL, probably still is) and simply would not back off.

He was “promoted” to a different shift than I was on the next week. But he still bothered me in the 15 minutes that the shifts overlapped. Lucky for me my contract was short. That was one ba*tard that needed to be hit with a complaint. He made my skin crawl.

Yeah, I think a lot of people could be guilty of spiking the ball on the five yard line. Why would a company pay $35K and $45K for referencing someone’s height. I fear there is more to the story. I hope not - best case, it slowly fades away, but i don’t think the press will let this go until one or both of the women come forward, then the public can decide if harrsaament took place an how serious all this is.

The women are already getting treated like they are “Casey Anthony” or something. No wonder they are worried about going public. Someone would probably try to attack them. And it’s not like it even sounds like a really bad complaint - but I’ve read some awful things that people are calling them.

Gold-diggers, sluts, whores, liars, on and on. Which seems a overreaction as they don’t seem to have accused Cain of anything vile or despicable. He made them “uncomfortable” in the workplace. Get the lynch mob!

My understanding is that when it’s a subordinate/superior relationship, the threat to the job is implied/understood. If you were my equal and made those advances, then my job isn’t on the line; I’ve just been harrassed. However, if you are my superior and did the exact same thing, it’s implied my job is threatened because if I refuse you have the power to affect my job.

And you might want to do some research on the McDonald’s coffee thing. I read they were warned several times before that incident that they were keeping their coffee too hot (because it kept it ‘fresher’ tasting and they didn’t have to make it so often); that incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“...if he asked two different women back to his apartment as a married man is that a disqualifier for President?...”

Reading this reminded me of Prince Philip’s reply to a resporter years ago (not that I’m a fan of Prince Philip)words to the effect, I have a policy of not responding to questions beginning with “if”.

Thanks! Wish I’d checked in earlier—Guiliani speaking now—wish I heard him from the beginning.
