I understand that. But, reducing my federal tax down to 9% gives me a whole bunch of extra cash. Then add the elimination of capital gains and dividends, and I will be way ahead of the 9% sales tax. However I should note I am retired and do not buy a lot of stuff. So my sales tax is not huge.
You are right about local taxes....they will be here regardless and basically have a neutral effect.
“Purists will continue to sputter about his personal life but by next year most voters will be in such a desperate state they won’t care. Newt gets it and that’s what will count.”
Oh, I get it. Three wives and two or more affairs don’t matter. My, what hypocrites some Freepers are on social issues. Newt was a horny toad. Only thing that’s stopping him now is he’s too old to roam elsewhere anymore. So now he’s gotten religion, conveniently, times for his run at the presidency.
“Against Obama, its a no-brainer for me, and hes out-performing Perry. Perrys frickin awful. This was the worst of his trilogy of bad performances.”
On PMSNBC tonite, one of the Lib Dems w/inside info said that the Obama campaign now wants Perry to win the primary because they think he will be easy to defeat, especially in the debates.
Cain and Newt won. Romney came off better than Perry. What is Perry on that he loses so much steam at the end of the debates that he can’t even complete a sentence? Is his 5 Hour Energy shortchanging him by half an hour??
And is that NM gov out of the closet?
When I look at Newt’s wife I think “She would screw the married Speaker of the House in his office” and I have no respect for her.
NAH.
He can handle it.
I do agree with you that his "message" is getting lost in these debates. I sure hope he somehow gets "him" out for people to really see!
I've started reading his book FED Up! As I started reading it, I was amazed how passionate he was about the founding father's view of our country! I knew Perry was a strong 10th Amendment, State's rights individual, but I never thought a whole lot about WHY until I started reading his book. That vision of what the founding fathers wanted for our country is amazing, and I'm understanding that vision through Perry's book now.
I'm sure I would have stuck with Rick Perry even after tonight's less than great (far less than great, lol) debate performance, but reading his book right now, and seeing how Rick Perry understands our country as through the eyes of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, and even Anonymous (OK, that person's quote was the beginning of Chapter 4, but it was a really good quote, lol,) not only do I have a better appreciation for America, but I so yearn for that same view. I'm not ready to give up on Perry just because of any debating skills. I'm hoping his debating skills improve, but I know his vision is already "right on".
I have heard that Rick Perry has called being the Governor of Texas the "best job in the world". It very well may be, and it probably is really nice to govern such a great state (so full of conservatives too). Somehow though, I don't think the difficulty of this will be lost on him. He's got "fight" in him still, and we'll be seeing plenty more of him, I'm sure.
Does it bother anyone that Romney supported class warfare with his $200,000 tax line to “help the middle class”?
He oozed liberal last night.
LOL
Didn't you hear? She announced her candidacy on Constitution Day. I didn't even check the news for this since I was assured it was a slam dunk.
I was for Rick Perry and even donated to his campaign. But he has lost me now with his position on immigration. I suspect he is finished.
I love Herman Cain. (We may see him at a luncheon on Oct. 15 here in TN.) So far, I’ve have agreed with him 100% on all statements. Sadly, Hussein has ruined it for any black person to run/win in the near future. (Just as Bush ruined it for any Texan to run/win in the near future.)
Perry stumbled over his words, and rambled. It was so pitiful that I actually felt sorry for him for a nanosecond. His defense of taxpayers footing 100% of the bill for illegals’ college education, while Americans had to pay for theirs, was unacceptable! He’s just creepy; I don’t trust him.
Romney... “smarmy” is correct. He didn’t dispute his the Mass. version of Obamacare. Again: Creepy. Don’t trust him.
Newt kicked ass, but I don’t trust him to be this tough in the Oval Office. His desperate need to be liked and accepted by the hoity toity will influence his decisions, I believe. If he didn’t have the ex-wife baggage it would be better, but the dems will have that all over the MSM in a skinny minute if he were the candidate.
Ditto for Bachmann’s baggage — especially her husband’s vocation/avocation. She’s pretty good, but the dems would crucify her.
We’re waiting for the perfect candidate who can defeat Obama.
I'm trying to decide who I am going to vote for. Perry is absolutely, inalterably OUT. I won't vote for a stammering dunce. At this point, I'll probably vote for Romney.
Newt is easily my favorite candidate. Unfortunately, most seem to believe he has too much baggage. He is at least somewhat more conservative than Mitt, plus he is intelligent and articulate, something that seems lacking in the rest of the candidates.
A couple of pints should be noted.
1. Nobody is given a 100% ride...they are paying in-state rates.
2. Texans are footing the bill, not Americans in general.
3. Perry is not the author or instigator of the enabling legislation. It passed both houses of the TX Legislature with overwhelming majorities. I believe there was only 1 dissenting vote.
I don't like the legislation very much but if the people of Texas are willing to foot the bill that's their business.
Were waiting for the perfect candidate who can defeat Obama.
Unless Jesus Christ Himself comes down and runs that ain't gonna happen. We're stuck with failable mortals...all full of their own sins, foibles and follies. The lot on that stage last night is the hand we've been dealt. Unless we're willing to see Romney as our nominee conservatives better get their act together and coalesce behind the strongest alternative. For my money that's still Rick Perry.
“The lot on that stage last night is the hand we’ve been dealt.”
So far...Still praying for someone who (1) who can beat Obama, and (2) will govern as a strong conservative without being influenced by RINOs. Those on the platform are either one or the other, but not both.
Quote: “I’m trying to decide who I am going to vote for. Perry is absolutely, inalterably OUT. I won’t vote for a stammering dunce. At this point, I’ll probably vote for Romney.”
Why, because Romney is “polished” and won the debate last night? Welp, he has to be “polished” because he has alot more than Perry in his past to DQ him in my bookn and has had a ton more time to sit there and rehearse his lies. The MSM might let him get away with those lies now but come the general election he is toast!!
I am not sure I support Perry at this point. But I am dead sure that I am against Mitt Romney. The second the guy gets criticized for a past position he simply spouts the following line: “you don’t have your facts straight” rinse, repeat and move on.” Nobody challenges him, nobody says that they have their facts dead on. Its more of the “RomneyCare was a great idea for Massachussetts” BS said in a polished way. RomenyCare and anything resembling it is not a good idea for any state!!
Perry has certainly sucked in these debates something fierce and needs to get his act together pronto or else he is toast. As to his “weakness” in his signing the Dream Act in Texas, here is a cold hard fact. You ain’t getting elected to dog catcher in TX without the hispanic vote. Hence why a Republican dominated legislature overwhelmingly passed that POS> Perry has the Hispanic vote and that is a fact that TERRIFIES, YES TERRIFIES Obama. Obama is counting on the hispanic vote to carry him. Without it, he has no hope of being elected. I do believe that Perry as the governor of a border state understands the problems presented by illegal immigration. He has to walk a line between enforcing the borders and not pissing off his electorate. As long as he is for enforcing the borders, I will have to hold my nose. Lest we forget, our god, our model for conservatism, Mr. Ronaldus Magnus passed amnesty.
As for this notion of building a fence or wall, I look at it this way. If federal government would itself enforce and allow the states to enforce the laws on the books there wold be no need for a wall. But we all know that they do not. Instead, a wall/fence has become a convienent excuse for the feds to not do their job by claiming it is “too hard” to police the border. I call BS. It is too politically inconvenient. Besides, given our current debt where are we going to get the money to build that wall, from China? Hey, I know, we could call it the “Great Wall of China II.”
Anyway, can some Freeper fill in for me between Perry and Romney as to where they have stood and stand today on the following issues:
The Second Amendment?
Healthcare Reform?
Climate Control?
Tax Reform?
Social Security Reform?
Reforming Government, i.e. elimination of or enacting regulations or shrinking government by ending the Department of Education?
Judicial Reform?
Social Issues?
See, I have feeling that when you fill in those, you may find that Romney has FAR more explaining to do than Perry. I personally am sick of seeing Perry attacked during these debates while Mittcain gets a free pass. Don’t get me wrong, Perry needs some arse whooping but not at the expense of allowing a guy who makes McCain look like Reagan coast to the nomination. So, Michele, Rick, stop throwing your wittle hissy because Perry stole all your thunder and start putting your money where your mouth is about getting the nomination into the hands of a conservative.
Vote for Romney, no thanks, there are plenty of actual wolves to vote for. Why would I vote for one in sheep’s clothing.
