I don't think any one weapon system should be sacrosanct but I don't think we should be cutting their budget one cent. The question in my mind, can the military let go of this traditional equipment and get more with the budget that they have. Because although I don't want to cut their budget, I don't want to increase it either.

But the way the geopolitical world works was driven by the might of America after the WWII with the help of her allies. Over the years, America has enforced these ideas.

Without the American Armed Forces, these agreements are nothing more than paper. The UN certainly will not enforce these ideas.

Some examples of Pre-WWII Geomagnetically Concepts that would return without the US Military:
1. Spoils of War - You get to keep what you take
2. Might Makes Right - If you have more fire power than your neighbor, you win regardless of what any agreement says
3. Pay to Play - You are a smaller country and you don't want to be harassed? Pay a tribute
4. Closed Seas - An empire can claim ownership over the entire ocean right up to the breakers

There are tons of other concepts, but anyone wanting these to come back, just cut the military budget.

China wants resources just to support their internal population and not even exports. They have a huge population.

These people need to think what China will do when they think they can take and keep resources forever by just marching across their border.

... our military is adapting technology very rapidly, in some instances even driving the technology.

UAVs of all sorts. Etc.
