I think it took real courage for a major and serious candidate(Ron Paul is not a major or serious candidate) to tell the truth to the American people about social security
Perry's words"You cannot keep the status quo in place and call it anything other than a Ponzi scheme,"
I would rather take care of my own retirement but if the government is going to force me to do so (because many are not responsible to do so) then I would prefer a retirement account, much like a health savings account, where I own it and the money the government takes from every pay check goes into my account. Even if only a portion of the money goes into my account, I would be far better off than the current system. Even if it’s a crappy 401(k) type fund - still better off. But the problem is, if you own it and the money is actually there, it makes it alot harder for the government to come and take it. Which is why the libs are going to do everything they can do stop it.
He isn’t a major party presidential candidate, which was my point. I’m glad, however, that he said it. More will be. Nevertheless, I don’t think that anything will be done in time to keep the economy from going over a cliff.
They all moved to Del Boca Vista and lived the high life on someone else’s dime.
My key problem with Perry is that his track record and stand on open borders demonstrates more love for socialist voting amigos who would only hasten the trainwreck than for middle class Americans who have paid into the system. This is a far more dangerous flaw than Mitt Romney's love for socialized medicine, which will merely bankrupt us one state at a time.
I agree with you on Rick Perry and Immigration. There are problems there. I am somewhat pleased thought that Perry seems to be listening to Joe Arpaio on this. Still, I share your sentiment and would like to give credit where it is due

Whether they are leading a high life or a low life, they are doing it on someone else’s dime. Nothing entitles them to be stealing from current workers or children who aren’t even born. And the Geezer lobby has been very effective at protecting its poltical spoils.
He looks good and he called Bambi a liar.
Perry’s position is in his book. In summary, he thinks that the federal entitlement programs belong at the state level so that states can make policy that makes sense in the context of the conditions in the state and in accordance with the views of the people of the state. Some of that came up in the Medicaid discussion. This is also the only constitutional solution to the problem.
If you look at the debate transcript, you will probably find a few words about a transition, but in the “debate” format it was impossible to give any detail, which is always the problem with these 8 candidate dog-and-pony shows.
Perry clearly stated that people receiving SS or close to receiving it should not be affected by any changes to SS. Now watch the media and democrats turn that around into shock tactics to scare the hell out of seniors.
I’m all for reforming SS including raising the eligibility age. Keep in mind when you talk about raising the age, there is a huge difference in someone who works at a desk in an office and someone who is working in construction, steel mills or coal mines. Office workers don’t come under the same wear and tear as people in highly physical jobs. Raising the retirement age to 70 for an office worker is not the same as raising the retirement age for a iron worker who has worked walking steel beams all his life.
Yea, Perry done real good.
