To me, I was expecting something extraordinary. What I got was ordinary. All around the joint I see these "supposed" magazine and newspaper articles, extolling the awesomeness of Five Guys burgers' and fries.
I say supposed, because from the time I got my sack, with the round tinfoil ball, that was my burger, to the time I took my first bite of said burger and had my first fry, my first and continually repeating thought was "are these raves and quotes real? Are these magazines and papers even real?" I wondered, and still do, whether the owners of 5 Guys just bought ad space in these mags and papers, and created ads that looked like reviews.
A half mile from 5 Guys is a Steak And Shake, I'll go there... repeatedly... before I'd go to 5 Guys. There's a Culvers about 3 miles away, and a Fuddruckers about 5-6 miles. Why waste my time with 5 Guys?
Heck, there is a Wendy's about the same distance from me as 5 Guys, and not only is Wendy's MUCH cheaper, I find the burger just as good.
What say you?
It isn’t very good if you get the Cajun fries and lots of stuff on the burger.
Best to stick to the traditional..then five guys is pretty good.
I go to 5 guys.....two patties, two American cheese slices, extra fresh onions, mayo, tomatoes, mustard, 4 dill slices, lettuce, and toasted bun
A large natural fries which you have to eat immediately after receiving them
and you are in good shape
That is how you compare hamburger joints
Not a Five Guys fan. I went twice—the second time just to confirm my initial impression. The burger was meh and the fries soggy. For a chain, I much prefer Fuddruckers burgers.
I liken the Five Guys phenomenon to Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Both were hyped far beyond the quality of the product. When KK came to the northeast, there were lines out the door. Eventually, most of the Krispy Kremes closed in the northeast. 5 Guys had lines out the door when they opened. Let’s see if they follow the Krispy Kreme downward trajectory.
5 guys is pricey but has pretty good quality beef and is an option if you live in a hamburger wasteland like Miami.
Compared to Wendy's here, 5 Guys is a lot better, but Steak and Shake is just as good and has been offering a lot of deals on kids eating free.
Fuddruckers? fresh ground beef, the best.
Bottom line
5 Guys is hype if you have a choice of good burger joints, but has a bright future in towns where the competition is McDonald's and Burger King.
Wow. Sounds like five guys is not that swift. I’ve never tried them. I do love Wendy’s. That double-stack is just over a buck, tastes great, and is a meal for me all by itself. And they give you a water for free.. dinner for about a buck!!
Never been to Five Guys. I plan on it when I’m in the DFW area in November.
I’ll keep an open mind. But... The standard for which all GREAT hamburgers are judged by is...
What-a-Burger.
That is all.
You are correct based on my one (and last) visit. The moment at the cash register was “breathtaking!”
I liked it. But it was the last thing I ate before I got a stomach bug.I can never go there again. I feel nauseous just thinking about that place
Haha....I have a history with Five Guys. Was never a big fan, thought it was so-so. I was due with my first child on Dec. 16 last year. On Dec. 12, my husband and I were hungry for lunch so we tried going to Beef O Bradys. Horrible service and a long wait made us leave; by that point, we just went to the first place we found — Five Guys.
We ate there and got home around 3:30. At 4 p.m. I started having contractions. Our son was born the next day. We laugh and say either he loved it or hated it! Regardless, I can’t smell that place without getting kind of nauseated haha.
Don’t come to North Carolina if you want a good hamburger! NO ONE can sell it unless it is cooked to 160 degrees - in other words well done. Dry and tasteless!
I agree. I was emphatically underwhelmed.
And I try to read as much as possible at lunch time. I ate at the restaurant and they blasted horrible rock music so loud I could barely concentrate.
Went there once. Not again.
I love Red Robin, though. Wow. What a deal you get there.
Wait, you mean the Village People got back together and opened up a burger joint??? I was wondering what they had been up to...
wait...
Oh, it’s the Five GUYS Burgers...
Carry on.
I feel the same about “In and Out”......it tasted good but I like my local Hunky’s burger
The equivalent in Florida:
Agreed. Small worthless buns, grease and food all over your hands, .... I make better burgers on my stove top.
the only thing they have over the competition is the box of peanuts and that you are allowed to throw the shells on the floor.
Wendys, In and Out, Rally, or Sonic is way mo’betta.
I’m hitting the showers.
It seems like I always get a great meal at Famous Dave’s. I usually order the ribs but I know they have burgers on their menu. Has anyone tried them?
Some of the best burgers. Five Guys toasts all of those places you named combined. I mean Steak n Shake... REALLY? No comparison.
Cheeseburger all the way + barbecue sauce + jalapeno peppers. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
For fast food 5 Guys is good but I have noticed differences between various locations. Fuddruckers is ok but generally bland and some locations only have a minimal condiments/fixins bar. I like that you can get a shake and cookie for the kids at Fudds.
One thing that always cracks me up about 5 Guys are the signs on the door telling you not to remove peanuts from the store because of peanut allergies.....hmmmm so according to the scientific genius’ at 5 Guys World Headquarters, it is safe to take the peanut oil soaked fries out into the real world but not the peanuts themselves.
They should serve Clearasil at the counter. I get 4 or more zits just walking by the place.
IT’s a restaurant based on Peanut Oil. I understand that Peanut Oil is a “Southern thing”, but all I see in my area at these dumps are surly blacks.
With severe acne.
