Ordinarily I might not ping this, because it's a medieval topic, and as it is late in the week and I'm about to do the Digest, I'd probably avoid pinging it now. But number one, I had it all lined up for posting on the evening when FR was down, and number two, it's pretty amusing that someone just now studied this in detail.
The English bowmen beat the flower of French nobility because they shot into the huddle, as it were, pissed off the French, who then had themselves lifted onto their chargers, and galloped toward those foreign peasants.
The peasants shot the horses. The horses fell, the armored French buttholes couldn't move, facedown in the mud (the lucky ones were killed by the fall), and the following ranks of horses couldn't stop, tripped, depositing more armored French buttholes on top of the previous batch, more arrows, anyway, something like 5000 were killed where they fell, immobilized by their armor, as their unarmed servants watched helplessly.
Those taken captive for ransom were a little too numerous and got a little too threatening (and French reinforcements were coming), so the French prisoners were slaughtered.
To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. |
