A lot of “show tunes” - My Fair Lady, Camelot, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story - but I do play for the right team and I’m not really all that ashamed about saying it in public LOL!
I’m a total classic Broadway geek, too. I have a rather large collection of that....but I’m not ashamed of those. :)
LOL! Me too. I went through a phase in my late teens where I was real into rock operas: Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita. Yeah, I even owned Chess (”One Night in Bangkok”). But yes, I could get the old stuff stuck in my head. Worse is that you can surrender your man card immediately if you ever sing any out loud.
(Worst songs possible for a guy to sing out loud: “I Feel Pretty,” from West Side Story; “At the Ballet” from A Chorus Line.)
Show tunes benefit from having brilliant composers and lyricists. On the subject of “show tunes”, which team was better, Rodgers and Hart or Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Hey - I sing “Sweet Transvestite” at karaoke! I love show tunes! ;-P
