5/15 /60 "The Mystery Gal Matter" Matter #690 Bob Bailey, Virginia Gregg (Betty Lewis), Jerry Hausner (Fritz Melchior), Parley Baer (John Marshall Sawyer), Peter Leeds (telephone repairman) ; Writer/Producer/ Director - Jack Johnstone ; Announcer - John Wald ; Expense Account Total = "Trivial" ; Betty Lewis calls Johnny and asks, "Marry me?" She says there is also an insurance matter she needs to speak with him about. She says that she is not at work or at her 13325 E. Maple Drive residence. She says that she will call him back with information on where to meet him. Fritz Melchior of Continental Insurance and Trust Company, Hartford, had phoned earlier about an insurance matter, too. An hour later Johnny calls Betty at work but she says she never called him and that she had been at the office all day. Johnny calls Fritz who says that Johnny had called him back earlier, but Dollar says that he hadn't. The reason for Fritz's call was that his client on E. Maple Drive, old John Marshall Sawyer, is threatened by Andy "The Actor" Renaldi, who Sawyer had put away in prison a few years back and who has recently been released on parole. Andy is an expert at imitating people, and had probably impersonated Dollar in the call to Fritz. Fritz says that sawyer was awakened by someone prowling around his house. He thinks it was Andy, and he has requested Johnny to be on the case. Johnny and Fritz speed off to Sawyer's house where they arrive in time to hear a couple of gun shots. In the doorway is the body of the still living Andy, and Sawyer hands his .38 to Johnny. Back at Dollar's residence a telephone repairman tells Johnny that his line has been tapped. Johnny calls Betty who wants him to come over to her place for a real surprise. Betty says that a girl with a gun in her hand was in Betty's house as Johnny and Fritz were checking out Sawyer's place. She knocked the girl out. She sounded a lot like Betty.
