I’ve played most of the Avalon Hill War Games that are available. Those are the ones I am most familiar with as Board Games.
I like the Strategic War Games more than the Tactical ones. Although PanzerBlitz and Squad Leader were particular favorites. And what I do remember of the Alamo was from a History project where I made a mock-up of the Alamo and followed the battle on it for the course. Way back in the 60’s. Got a A+ too.
The real ones were while I was in the Service. And I chose a Sea-going one rather than a land based one. Something about food and lodging being more readily available ;-)
Interesting. I’ve played Victoria, and have yet to finish a world conquest as Texas. I’ve got one game where TX controls Japan and Korea, central Italy, Haiti, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley.
The hard part is navigating that position as the 6th greatest military power in the world to defeat all my enemies.
I have the 4th greatest empire in the game by population, less than Britain, China or Russsia. My military is 6th, though still only half as strong as the United States.
I just conquered Japan. My enemies include the United States, Austria, Sardinia, and the Two Sicilies.
My goal right now is to pay down debt and incorporate my Far East empire. But I don’t think I’m going to be able to do that as Austria and Sicily want their territories back.
