I wouldn’t want to live in the suburbs though.

I live in the suburbs, armed and ready. So is my wife. And my 15 year old son is a better shot than me.

Sounds like you’ll be fine as long as you have a retreat plan and useful skills. Lots of little towns like mine are pretty welcoming in times of need.
