I can make cloth with or without a spinning wheel, not that I want to.

Isn’t R. Heinlein a science fiction writer? I looked at the table of contents, don’t see the relevance?

Heinlein was indeed a science fiction writer, and in his book Time Enough For Love, he has a chapter about the protagonist going off and homesteading on a newly-discovered planet (Tale of an Adopted Daughter, I think the chapter was called). He spends a few pages describing what he decides to bring along on the trek (in a pair of mule-drawn wagons).

There are a few pages that are relevant to the topic of survivalism, but I wouldn't rely on it as a tutorial. If you like science fiction, it's a good read, but if not, you won't be missing anything important.
