There is a town that is on the other side of the mountain about 12 miles away, but if society falls apart there isn’t going to be a dentist there.
That's the problem with assuming that you'll be surviving on your own. You can't, at least not long term.

Even if the dentists (and doctors, and machinists and...) close up their businesses, they will still be around, and will be happy to trade their expertise with those who have something worthwhile to trade.

The problem is connecting with those people. You should do it now, before TSHTF. It seems to me that the best preparation for the end of the world is to become part of a small community that will survive as a community.

No body wants to admit to themselves what is happening, they don’t want to talk about it till it is too late.

If the Dentist is around I can try to get him and recruit him into my camp early on....otherwise the guy isn’t going to stay there because the initial thinking of people who don’t know how to live in the country will be to flee to the city. Wrong headed as I know it would be from the descriptions and stories of my grand parents during the Great Depression.
