Old ships were allowed to sit on the swamp and die, just rot away. That’s more than likely what this is, just a hulk that became more trouble to keep in repair than it was worth, dragged onto the shoreline and allowed to rot.

The cost of this great find is more than it is worth, cover the hole and get on with the construction.

i have to agree with this assessment. From what I've read previously, NYC, and a number of other coastal cities, was built on the remnants of old ships/boats/barges and ferries that were used as foundation pieces. Basically left where they sank or dragged use as fill for buildings. San Francisco stands out as one of the prolific examples of this.
I doubt that this is anything that qualifies as "historic" other than the fact that it is "old."
