For the million plus years as humans were evolving, their diet most certainly did not consist of Whoppers and milk shakes. It probably consisted of fruits, berries, leaves, roots and herbivorous animals they could hunt down.

Any time they were lucky to hunt an animal it was very lean meat since those animals got a lot of exercise avoiding chasing lions & cheetah’s. No wonder heart disease is #1 killer now since we eat meat from domesticated animals such as cows. That “marbled” meat is not something our genes are familiar with.

“We assume soils in the past had similar relationships to vegetation as what we observe today.”

Well, I heard an old saying about assuming. Anyone know what it is?

Slight correction in the number of zeroes. It was supposed to read 6,245 (in October) years.

The key phrase:
“We assume soils in the past had similar relationships to vegetation as what we observe today.”

Unless average temps. varied more or the levels of C02 were different or the amount of ozone present in the atmosphere or.....maybe little Lucy had her cabana on the savanna.

Interesting. I would be willing to bet that we would refer to the proto-hominid as a plains ape. Never found in the woods.
