And we always hear news stories of small children being attacked by packs of pit bullcats.

Cats are disgusting and selfish creatures. It is little wonder that they are the favored pet among liberals.

The Old Testament uses the Hebrew word for dog, kelev, as the term for a male homosexual temple prostitute. It can't get any more disgusting than that.

Cats have a mysterious and dark power...documented from time immemorial. In a human social setting, they can pick the person out that hates cats the most. Then at the inopportune time jump in their laps and force the person to tell the truth...about how they feel about cats...in public.

Dogs take subtle cues from their owners, but a cat will force the truth out of a cat hater, no matter what embarrassment the home owner (servant) that lives with the cat will feel. The kneading claws are the most effective at getting a reaction. Dogs can scare people, but only a cat will terrorize them. You might not want to put this in a public blog...they have spies everywhere.

They have lightening at their beck and call. Freerepublic does not call the dogs out...but the...oh no, their coming...repent before they...

They are our overlords...

They both have desirable traits, in different ways.

The best answer of all. God put them both here to ease man's sojourn in this vale of tears and it shouldn't be either/or in respect to God's gifts.

There are 147 Border Collies and Border Collie mixes listed on petfinder.com within 100 mile radius of Tyler, Tx. Also, check at local humane socities and foster care groups near where you live. Lots of people love their border collie pups, until the pups grow up, then they throw ‘em away.

I don’t understand people who “hate on” either. But there are more cat-haters than dog - what does that say about “dog” people?

I love both animals.

Although, dogs vary so widely whereas no other animal does. I generally could take any cat, but I’m very particular about dogs. German Shepherds all the way; everything else is questionable. ;-)

Touche.

I.e., cats may eat dead people, but dogs are more likely to eat LIVE people. Nice.

(I have no illusions about dogs, though I love them.)

Truthfully, I like both of them. (But this admission is ruining a perfectly good Dog vs. Cat battle! :-) )

A dog’s nightmare—his human eats the meat in the refrigerator without his assistance. :-)

Only one kitten of that breed is listed, at present. 1 young cat and seven adult cats are also listed.

Not to mention, how many movies has Hollywood made about dogs who show lifelong loyalty to their masters, save their owner’s life, and/or save the life of another animal; many of which are “based on a true story”?

Now compare that number to the number of movies made about cats.

;-)

Cats are very hard to train, hence why dogs are the preferred pet for Hollywood movies. Cats can be trained but it takes a VERY long time to train them. It took me 4 months to train my orange shorthair how to do the limited amount of tricks I taught him. He can stand on his hind legs, do a high 5 and touch his nose to my hand on command. It takes a bit of coaxing to get him to roll over, come on command, fetch, sit and lie down. He’s 1 year old though, so he has a lot of time to learn a few more tricks.

Keep at it, and appeal to his self interest. We haven’t trained ours to do too much, but the things we did have stayed consistently since we were persistent and each successful “performance” got a reward enough to make it worth it to them.

Tap something gently and all 4 cats, even the high strung shyboy, will come to your tap. Easy enough to train, since each time they come, regardless of anything else planned, make it a point to love on them. Made even easier to imprint if there’s occasionally goodies as well.

From there you can be sneaky and work on “tricks” for their benefit, depending on the cat and their need, but NEVER use the tap-call to summon for punishment, and never go immediately into something even mildly disliked.

If you plan to groom them and they enjoy having back and sides brushed but dislike ruff or tummy, give them some (lots) of what they like first so they don’t come to associate it with bad things. If they like brushing but hate claw trimming, give them a very good brushing before you even think about grabbing a paw.

Not so much on other doglike tricks, honestly, but simple obedience is priceless! Come when called/come to tap is the single most important thing to get them to understand.

Our big male fetches on his own and seems to understand basic English commands at the level of a toddler or so, but he IS a cat...he obeys when he feels like it! Other than the tap, which he’s generally very good about.

Also, I know this may seem somewhat disconnected since you’re trying to teach doglike tricks, but...consider it just a bit of extra insight on how getting a cat to do anything can work.

One final point, for the sake of bribery and to give you another reward to offer so you don’t balloon poor kitty up...some short hairs ADORE the sensation of being brushed. Our 2 longhair girls tolerate it grudgingly...they won’t bite, but might try to wiggle away. The boys go into transports of joy, arching and wiggling tail or rolling to show their tummies, when they see the brush coming. They cry, dance, jostle to the point of nearly pushing the girls aside for a chance.

Your cat may or may not, I obviously can’t promise how a kitty I’ve never met will respond, but our brother-cats are a short, slightly coarse, dry coat and a short, shiny (he GLEAMS like onyx set in silver), slick/almost oily coat texture and they both love nothing more than to be brushed.

No only did our two cats eat everything the first day, but also they opened a cupboard, dragged out the bag of cat kibble, opened it and ate a goodly portion of that too.

They were both less than six months old at the time, and they were noticeably larger when we got back on Sunday afternoon than they were on Friday evening.

And they had the gall to greet us with looks of wide-eyed innocence when we got home, too. ;-)

In the New Testamen, what animal does Christ compare the Syrophoenician woman to, when testing her faith? Which animal does she identify herself as as she responds in faith?

Answer: Dog

Now, what animal was Mohammed’s favorite animal, so much so, that he is purported to have cut off part of his garment rather than wake it?

Answer: Cat

Enough. Said. ;-)

“Cats are very hard to train, hence why dogs are the preferred pet for Hollywood movies. Cats can be trained but it takes a VERY long time to train them.”

This is clearly an indicator of the average cat’s intelligence.....

Cats definitely rule, but absent those, then snakes are the way to go.
