The Battle of Cats vs. Dogs
Parade Magazine ^ | July 31, 2011 | Kalee Thompson

Which of America’s favorite pets is top dog (or the cat’s meow) when it comes to smarts and skills?

We turned to science to put the age-old rivalry to the test.

If you disagree with the results, join the debate at our special Dogs vs. Cats celebration site.

May the best pet win!

Which Have More Stamina? The sled dogs that compete in Alaska’s annual Iditarod run about 1,100 miles in less than two weeks, often in temperatures as low as -40 degrees F. “They use fat as their primary energy source—far better than any other athletic species that’s been studied,” says exercise physiologist Michael Davis, who notes that a 55-pound husky can burn as many as 12,000 calories a day. Davis’s research has also shown that sled dogs have an enormous capacity to process oxygen. Cats are more like sprinters: They’re capable of short bursts of energy but lack the aerobic endurance of ultra-runners like huskies.

Winner: DOGS

This picture does not refute the fact that Islam historically has revered cats any more than a picture of an American ghetto refutes the fact that Americans have historically advocated for limited government, hard work, personal responsibility and other values.

Have there been people who don’t share that value? Absolutely, in both cases. However, it would be intellectually dishonest to deny the value because one dislikes members of a false religion.

Muslims today are just as lost as the Samaritans of the First century A.D. But even a lost people can have a genuine regard for a species of God’s creation, and it is my prayer that this regard will be one step from separating them from the worship of a false god to worship of the True God.

You don’t need to do that for the full hour. A few seconds will produce the same result and not put your Dog’s health at risk!

If your dog is at the back door barking to be let in and your wife is at the front door with her hands full of groceries and yelling to be let in, which one do you let in first? Your dog of course. It will shut up when you let it in!

;-)

I was providing further information; not because I agreed with everything at the source, but because I value intellectual honesty and wished to provide support for my claim.

But you make a fair point; I have allowed and actively engaged in rendering this thread to drift off too far off topic. My apologies to all.

Cats are FAR superior to dogs ...dogs are just mimics who want to please their owners....they are followers and Democrats. That is why cats outnumber dogs in household pets.

Cats are animals that are far more likely than dogs to fall into fish tanks.

We recall *Cairo* the specially trained super-dog that was in operation Geronimo that took out Bin Laden.

From a tortuous article from the NewYorker about the raid:'As James talked about the raid, he mentioned Cairo’s role. “There was a dog?” Obama interrupted. James nodded and said that Cairo was in an adjoining room, muzzled, at the request of the Secret Service.

“I want to meet that dog,” Obama said.

“If you want to meet the dog, Mr. President, I advise you to bring treats,” James joked. Obama went over to pet Cairo, but the dog’s muzzle was left on.'

This illustrates a dog can be trained to Navy Seal standards; trained to attack a Muslim when they smell one; which is why the SS had Cairo's muzzle left on, when he met the great pretender.

I rest my case, as to which critter is better. Do the Seals train cats?

Poor Cairo. It’s a shame that such a brave dog was treated with such suspicion.

Plus cats get on the counters, tables, and the litter box thing is disgusting.

Now that is cute. I don’t hate cats and until a few years ago had at least one cat since I was 16 years old. Got tired of the litter box, jumping on tables, counters, from now on, dogs only.

It seems you’re a cat person; maybe you can help. We have four inside spoiled-rotten cats and can’t take in any more. A feral who hangs around our place just brought around three kittens — about 8-10 weeks old. We’re trying to catch all of them and do a Trap-Neuter-Release at the vet’s. Any suggestions on the best way to do do it? A trap seems like the only option, but seems cruel, too :(

Np problem. It happens. Sensitive topic that really had nothing to do with which is better, a cat or a dog? :)

Au contraire mon frere.

The handler *knew* Cairo was like a loaded weapon ...trained to react to Muslim terrorists ...guess who in the room fit that bill? It was more for Cairo’s sake, coz he would probably do what he was *trained* to do when he came upon the enemy.

To: MayflowerMadam; Slings and Arrows

I have never trapped feral cats, but I found this:

http://www.feralcat.com/trapinst.html

I am pinging Slings and Arrows who would have a better idea which Freepers have the most expertise on the subject.

Slings and Arrows,

Do you (or does anyone on your ping list?) have any suggestions for this Freeper’s quandary?
