August 1 marks the 30th Anniversary of MTV. MTV revolutionized the way we looked at music and the VJs were a big part of shaping that vision. We want to know what it meant to you. Do you have fond memories of watching MTV or your favorite VJ?
Well collect your stories through the month of August and post them here on the site as we get them.
We will be accepting form entries starting Saturday, July 30th, 2011.
Entries may be edited and become the property of 80sVjs.com.
Well, not today -- I want my MTV of 30 years ago!
PING!
MTV was great when it started. But it’s sucked for long time.
It all started falling apart when Kurt Loder was hired to present the “news”.
MTV is now MONKEY TV
I have no memories of MTV
“Jersey Shore” and “Teen Mom” make me want to set my hair on fire.
Internet killed the video star...
That ain’t workin’...
When they used to play music videos is the only memory I can come up with.
Walk like an egyptian...
Started out ok but when it turned to RAP and then nothing but useless reality series or I should say anything but music videos etc I wouldn’t let my kids watch it (at least at home, I’m sure they did elsewhere) and it’s blocked on my TV today along with BET and a lot of other TV networks.
I had a huge crush on Martha Quinn back then.
Saw her in a magazine yesterday and was reminded how much older I am now...
Bring back ‘The Young Ones.’
What does the “M” stand for again??
The end of the 80s/Headbangers Ball was the end of MTV for me. When it became uncool for men to strut their stuff in spandex and look as hot as the women on the hoods of Jaguars, that was it for me.
What????? It’s perfectly manly to dress like a woman and wear more makeup than a mime....
Well it was back then! ;)
Normie - 80s metal fan
Favorite memories? When they used to play music videos. And “Beavis And Butthead”.
A crush on Martha Quinn.
I liked MTV until Tipper Gore and the PMRC started in on them and they capitulated like the cowards that they are when a Democrat criticizes them and dropped Heavy Metal from their programming. Then they still act like they are all ‘edgy’ and pushing the limits when they are really just a bunch of twits. No respect for any of them...
Well, I still have that damn “Fish Heads” tune stuck in my head...
