I read one guys thoughts that the Olmecs were the first to have a 'Panama Canal' across Mexico. Goods were unloaded from ships on the Pacific side and carted overland where they were reloaded on ships in the Gulf Of Mexico for further transport.

That would also account for the presence of so many different racial groups in one spot at that time.

And, they all apparently appeared there fairly suddenly...I've read.
