I grew up in upstate NY. In the woods we would find foundations of old cabins and dig through their old garbage pits. We found all kinds of old bottles and ceramics from the 1800s. Really fascinating.

The hubby and I were just metal detecting at an old ghost town last weekend. Found a two ounce chunk of melted silver. Not much value but it's the getting out, researching and time together that's worth it.
