Highly Recommended:

Tender Mercies (Robert Duvall), beautiful film, strong Christian message.

I am loving this thread!

Another Duvall movie, “Wrestling Ernest Hemingway”, with Richard Harris.
Very good.

One of the bleakest movies I've ever seen is:

Salaam Bombay!

Its a powerful, griping and devestating tale of street-children, hookers, pimps and heroin dealers in Bombay.

Its ALL subtitles, but the story is riveting, as well as heartwrenching and heartbreaking upon reflection; the despair and hopelessness of these people is beyong comprehension.

Near the end is the proverbial John 3:16 message, in the background, that you'll miss if you're not paying attention. Its there for all about 10 seconds; its plausibly the only hope any of the characters have in an entire bleak lifetime of destitute existance.

Have you seen ‘The Third Miracle’ starring Ed Harris? I think you might like it.
