An ex-girl friend of mine married last year. I was very surprised to see that she went the hyphenated name route.

That is quite a shackle to place on children. Suppose John Smith and Sarah Jones get married. Sarah becomes Sarah Jones Smith. They have a child, Sally Jones Smith.

Sally grows up and marries a man who's mother went hyphenated. The man's name is Hector Washington Hereford.

So...they have a child named James. And his name would be James Jones Smith Washington Hereford? nice going.

My ever-so-liberated daughter did that when she got married. BOTH of them changed to hyphenated names. Gag me !!! They know I don’t like it and will occasionally make some smart aleck comment, but it’s their lives. Don’t know how the grands will do when the arrive, and have asked about quadruple hyphenation, but they don’t seem to have an answer.
