Actually, I’ve only had one toaster “with a brain,” and it was the most inconsistent one I ever owned. I got a cheapie a couple of years ago, and it’s working just fine.

I had one toaster advertised as having a “bread brain” , that one worded fine ... my problem seems to always be with the electromagnet hold down .. they don’t shield them from crumbs and they fail to stay down...
