Actally, FYI, there was a debate for many years about how to pronounce Arkansas. At first it was pronounced “Ar-kansas.” But then people began to call it “Arkansaw.” Finally, in 1951, the state legislators decided to end the debate by declaring the “official” pronunciation, “Arkansaw.”

There you have it folks.

Of course there is still the debate about Missouri. Is it “Missouree?” Or is it “Missourah?”

According to my grandfather, God rest his soul, who was born there in 1896, the exact pronunciation of "Missouri" depends upon factors such as whether one was born north or south of the Missouri River, and one's personal thoughts about The Civil War. "Missouree" was regarded as the Yankee way of saying it.

I never could whistle. My mother told me I would be able to whistle when my permanent teeth came in. Did the teeth know something I didn’t? Didn’t matter. I still can’t whistle. The only kid out of seven who can’t.

Oh, that’s true! Then I cleaned up the cat spew and went in the kitchen and fixed up the coffee for tomorrow. I’ve felt awful all day today - just like the last time I didn’t have coffee!
