I couldn’t pin down the north star but I could find the right area do to the shortening star trails.

The interior of Ames Monument is hollow and I have been inside. The last time I was there the opening had been plugged. Too much partying in there I suppose. It's near an abandoned town that formerly served the transcontinental railroad.
I know way too much useless information.
