The gym is only a waste of money if you’re rich enough to have your own well-equipped home gym. Sure, if all you do at the gym is jog, you’re wasting your money. But if you lift weights or take exercise classes, the gym is a great resource for getting in shape. And unless you’re physically disabled, you should be lifting weights.

Forgot about that. Also, cleaning your house is somewhat aerobic exercise.

Agreed. The variety of machines, aerobic and strength training, keeps the body guessing and training. There’s no way I can afford that variety at home, let alone find room for them all. Also, having physical conditions that limits you in one way makes a gym even more worth while because you can adapt some machine to something you can do.

The jogging comment also annoys me. It assumes we’re safe going outside to run and disregards weather (rain, heat) that can limit jogging or even walking.

I don't know where you live, but for the price of a single year's membership at a gym you can equip yourself with a barbell, 300+ lbs. of weights, flat bench and a used power rack off of Craigslist. You don't need machines.

the gym is not a waste of money. Buying excercise equipment that you think you’ll use at home is because it will end up as a coat rack.

But I think people should spend their money how they want to as long as they’re not taking food out of their children’s mouths.

Oh, heck, kids are too fat anyway. Go ahead.

I agree with you. The 2 I don’t think are stupid is the Gym and SUV’s.

$35 a month is a good deal IF you use it

SUV is bigger and needed for many familys to haul them and stuff around. You can buy one used much cheaper than new to get more bang for your buck.
