I’m trying to figure out what class warfare you are speaking of. YOU are the one who brought up what you have/had, not me? If you really need to know, I got the title to one of our homes as a wedding gift....Does that make a difference? I’ve made a living over the years on weddings and wedding apparel but gave it up from dealing with Bridezillas so I’m speaking from that point. If I charged what the dress was really worth in materials and labor we are talking $400 you hang that dress in a shop with that pricetag and the brides won’t even look at it, Add a zero to the same dress and it is looked at, add two zeros and a fancy tag and it appears in a magazine.I quit doing it because of how ridicious it got to be.
I looked it bck up just to make sure. My first comment was not directed to you but to the OP YOU did make it about you....
good thoughts!
Women can be extremely catty when it comes to other women, especially good looking ones. Early on in my wife’s professional career, someone complained that my wife’s skirts were too short and that it was distracting. She got HR involved, and they had several meetings, and a couple of them even involved measuring tapes. Turned out that her skirts were actually covering more than the complainers. The difference was nothing more than the 5’ nothing pudgy PA couldn’t look as leggy as my 6’ wife in any clothes.
It just went downhill from there. The complainer quit less than a year later, turning in her resignation the day my wife became her boss.
What an interesting turn this thread has taken.
At the office where I used to work, I wore baggy linen capris one day. They fell several inches below the knee, almost mid-calf.
The next day I was told a formal complaint had been filed against my capris by the woman in accounting who daily wore shirts that couldn’t show more cleavage if she’d been topless.
But I suppose when you’re 350 lbs and 5’, people don’t care about your cleavage except to wonder where you buy undergarments that big. It’s the shins and ankles that don’t look like Christmas hams that offend, apparently.
The whole office had to be lectured by the manager about the new dress code policy that prohibited capris. Nothing else. Just capris.
I’m with the author, here- I’ve always found overpriced weddings tacky and an unnecessary burden on both the couple getting married, and their families. Fortunately, my wife agrees with me on this- we both feel that the marriage is far more important than the wedding.
We got married in a friend’s backyard, and her father officiated. The night before, we had a party, dug a big hole, built a fire in it, then buried a pig overnight. The next day, we dug up the pig, got married, and had another party (reception). The Mrs. made her dress, with help from her mother, and she still wears it from time to time.
The reception was pot luck, and we specifically requested that everyone bring their children. We had a stinkin’ blast, and it hardly cost anything.
You can make it all about you and save $75...just stay home.
This made me smile. I’m 47 getting married for the first time. Most everyone I know thinks they are entitled to tell me what I should do. Right now I can think of only what I won’t do.
Torture people by asking them to spend a lot of money on ugly clothes....
Spend money we don’t have...and even if we do have it, I think it’s a waste of money.
Oh yeah....and I don’t need a shower. Neither did the last several couples for whom I attended a shower. The greedy little beggars had been living together for years!
wow, what a rant.
if she really felt this way then she should have firmly and politly said no thank you.
just because people have lived together prior to marriage ceremonies does not mean they should be denied the ceremony. (ie immigration issues, finacial issues, business opportunity)
There are ways to do weddings without taking a vow of complete stingyness.
sometimes the cash bar is used as a vehicle to keep people from drinking too much. Good to know when you have a few hard drink enthusiasts.
Why should a couple HAVE to fork out cash for hard liquor? most all provide the wine anyways.
Bridesmaid dresses: I bought a dress for my daughter to wear in my neices wedding. My sis in law had the nerve to ask me to give it to her to sell. TACKY sis in law.
I then bought the dress my niece wore at my daughters wedding. My tacky sis in law wanted that dress as well.
Where do people get off being just tacky. BTW, she didn't get either of them.
I think if someone wants you to be in their wedding, THEY BUY YOUR DRESS. Sometimes I briefly view the "Bridzilla" show, let me tell you RHIO BUTT, you don't look beautiful in anything. Trying to stuff a 250 lb body into a size 14 dress just don't work, and especially the bare bodices, you look like a sausage and you are just plain tacky. What are the mothers thinking and the producers of that show.
Tell them to loose about 100 lbs. before you let them on that show. I don't watch anymore of that trash.
This was a great rant, Feline_AIDS.
Thanks for sharing.
Whatever you say, sweetie.
