The solution for very gassy landfills is to drill some wells, collect and condition the gas, and run it into a gas turbine genset. This is nothing new, in fact it is a common practice.

Not far from my place is a hog packing plant with a huge
burn off torch for their waste lagoon. About 1/4 mile away
is a grain drying business with huge LP tanks to run the
dryers. Drives me nuts every time I see it!

I have worked on one project with one generator manufacturer on a project for gensets using digestor gas from pig manure tanks. The gas is a combination of methane and carbon dioxide, so the engine timing (these were reciprocating spark engines) had to be worked on. The market is out there, and the fuel is already there to be burnt and utilized.
