The governmental guidelines of the past, 9 to 11 servings of grains per day in addition to 3 fruit servings per day has created the type 2 diabetes epidemic. It was insane.

I have been preaching this sermon for the last two years.

You can blame the cargill/archer daniels midland grain lobby for the 9-11 servings of grains. They lobbied to have that put in the food pyramid. The same people who give us ethanol.

In my grandfather's day, there were virtually no obese men even though they had very high caloric diets, much of it coming from grains, starch and sugar. That's because they worked like hell. Diabetes was rare back then. The food pyramid didn't cause obesity and type II diabetes. Obesity, and all the maladies that result from being obese, are caused by people eating too much and not exercising enough.
