Two Tales Of One City June 2, 2011

The book of Jonah has the makings of a great movie plot. It contains a runaway prophet, a terrible storm at sea, the prophet swallowed by a great fish, God sparing the prophet’s life, and the repentance of a pagan city.

But Jonah’s sequel—the book of Nahum—might not be so popular. Nahum ministered in Nineveh just as Jonah had, but about 100 years later. This time, the Ninevites had no interest in repentance. Because of this, Nahum condemns Nineveh and proclaims judgment on the people.

To unrepentant Nineveh, the prophet preached: “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked” (Nah. 1:3). But Nahum also had a message of mercy. To comfort the people of Judah, he proclaimed: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him” (v.7).

We see in the stories of Jonah and Nahum that with every new generation comes the necessity of an individual response to God. No one’s spiritual life can be handed off to another; we must each choose to serve the Lord from our own heart. God’s message is as fresh today as it was hundreds of years ago: judgment for the unrepentant but mercy for the repentant. How will you respond?

Your mercy, Lord, how great it is
To overrule our sin!
So help us know Your righteousness
And choose to walk therein. —D. De Haan

God’s judgment is certain, but so is His mercy.

Read: Nahum 1

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. —Nahum 1:7

The story of man ... (the billions that have lived on earth) ... is not pretty story. Where is the vision, the promises of God sets before us?

In the beginning man's life times were about a thousand years and again and again he corrupted himself. Greed, jealousy, envy ,pride, desire to steal from others, willingness to turn from God and his instructions, with grumbling and murmurings. Easily deceived, willingly walking in sins. Life spans were reduced again and again until now we are told four score and ten is the time men live.

Aids is a disease we would not have, if men obeyed God.

Now there are all sorts of plagues around the world, and with the desire for same sex marriages, it will grow shorter still. The average homosexual lives 39 years.

Do we not see the big picture? The words that are being removed from speaking are the basis of Christianity. Not allowed in schools, not wanted on our currency, not allowed a presence in the Courts of Justice, and the churches have relaxed their attitudes about adherent to God's Word.

We accept these edicts and the youth of today do not know the Holy Bible. There is as many couples living together unmarried among Christians as there are in the agnostics, or atheists, among us.

We are being manipulated into political correctness, regarding Sharia Law.

Are we so weak and acquiescent that we lay down and roll over for the evil of the adversaries?

Are we standing with Israel? The apple of God's eyes? Are we concerned and intending to follow the commands of the God almighty, Jesus, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Father, help us in our day, what we do not know, teach us, what we do not have, give us, what we are not make us, in Jesus name, amen

I am not afraid of tarantulas - I think they are the only spider that has a ‘gentle disposition’. A couple years ago, “Harry” would come up to ‘visit’ me, every time I would sit on my porch at night. All I had to do, was say, “Harry?” and then whistle, and he would come up to the step, and just sit there and look at me. After about ten minutes, he would turn around, and leave - to go to his little bed. I even stopped traffic once, so no cars would hit a tarantula crossing the street. (And, NO - I have never touched one!)

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Luv and C_F, I think your tulips are beautiful!
I planted several hundred bulbs some years back,
and found out quickly that javelina
think they are dessert - and do a 'dig and devour' in a very short time.

They say that a preacher’s wife is always his number one assistant.

An example of this comes one Sunday morning after the preacher had just finished his sermon. He went and sat down with his wife and she asked him how he thought the church service went.

The Preacher shrugged and said, “The worship was excellent, and I think the prayer and communion times went quite well, but,” he continued, “I just don’t think the sermon ever got off the ground.”

The wife looked over at him, and before she could stop herself, she said, “Well, it sure did taxi long enough!”
