Another interesting book, “Biblical Nonsense: A Review of the Bible for Doubting Christians,” by Jason Long. Primarily regarding the Old Testament. Makes one wonder how anyone could possibly still believe the mythologies conjured up 4000 years ago.
These sorts of intellectual fistfights have been going on among biblical scholars since long before the days of the LXX. As with sausage making, they are best not conducted in front of the unwashed Christian masses. (Jewish scholars, OTOH, will go round and round on this stuff ‘till the cows come home.)
For garden-variety Christians, happy in their pre-adolescent Sunday School understanding of how the 2,000 year old Kerygma was carried forth to us: Please ignore.
