And this might be why he never runs... not the F-bombs... it sounds like Trump has the quintessential rich politician problem: Vietnam.
According to a new document unearthed by The Smoking Gun: Donald Trump received 4 student deferments, and one medical deferment, which is in contradiction to a previous quote explaining his draft status: I actually got lucky because I had a very high draft number. Ill never forget, that was an amazing period of time in my life.
Technically, that doesn't have to be a lie. Eventually Trump got a high draft number, but it appears that it's definitely not the only way he avoided the war.
Again, that Vietnam service has been an issue for many candidates is known to everyone, and for someone who was born wealthy -- and going to Wharton at the time -- the deferrals look worse.

At the bottom right it says “DISQ”. I’m not a veteran but to me that appears there may have been a physical reason for disqualification.
Man there is all kinsa od patriots in this country they just don’t want to put on a uniform and put their money where their mpoutyh is.
One could say that dodging the draft was just another way of voting against LBJ.
Does the phrase “draft dodger” have any meaning to people under the age of 55? I seriously doubt it. The youngest people who would have been drafted cannot have been born after 1955. Today’s professional military don’t care one bit about the concept.
Ronald Reagan opposed the draft as it meant that citizens were fundamentally considered property of the state. As one of the younger generation it just seems to me that “draft dodger” is a term applied in bitterness towards people who for whatever reason were able to avoid the draft. Do people here fundamentally believe that the government has the right to all males of fighting age? I sure as hell don’t.
that’s it, he’s out.
Did he go on MTV and brag about trying marijuana while going to school to avoid the draft like Clinton?
Did he have his pappy undo influence to be accepted into the National Guard like the Fake but accurate msm tried to say Bush did?
Did he do anything illegal?
If all he did was legally avoid the draft because he was a student, then that was just a smart decision and it's not really a problem for him.
Does anyone care about this anymore? McLame was a war hero and he was the biggest POS the GOP ever nominated. Kerry served as well and he was a Brahmin loser. I think after Bush II, this became an irrelevant argument.
this is a very enlightening post. i appreciate learning things like this from the many smart freepers.
thank you!
LOL! Post of the day.
I served in the U.S.Navy, 1980-1986, as a crypto-linguist with a TSC, and am a traditional Conservative (Goldwater-type).
Firmly, I believe active duty military service ought to be one of the eligibility requirements to serve in the Congress and the Presidency (V.P., too!.) If not enshrined in the Constitution, then unwritten and customary.
if trump runs and the best they can do is call him a draft dodger he gets the win..
To me, "draft dodger" is someone who fled the country or avoided the draft through an illegal or fraudulent means. It doesn't apply to someone who took advantage of school deferments, that were available to anyone willing to go to school.
Not sure there’s anything there. Trump was born June 14, 1946 and the 12/2/1969 draft lottery number for that date was 356. Can’t get much higher.
Page down a page or two.

...and here we go again. When it is a REPUB running, we know everything about their past. BUT WE KNOW NOTHING about Obama.
Did you miss the fact that John Kerry couldn’t get into any graduate school and so enlisted in the Naval Reserves, only to be activated? That’s how the whole swift boat thing came about.
Oh, they are just getting started.
However, Trump fights really dirty. Trump will have no problem going after the reporters themselves.
“One could say that dodging the draft was just another way of voting against LBJ.”
Perhaps, but most people say that dodging the draft was just another way of telling the US Constitution and American Flag to F-Off and telling everyone that you are a coward.
As much as I respect those who were there....I cant blame someone who sees that the war was fought to fight it and not to win it....especially when LBJ was president...
the previous generation, the so called ‘Greatest Generation’ fought a war to win it and WON IT....not to fight it for ten+ years with no endgame in sight...
The only thing that might raise a question is the 10/15/1968 1Y classification which kept Trump from being drafted until the 12/21/1969 draft lottery.
1Y was a classification indicating some minor/moderate impediment to military service that would have been overlooked if a large scale war had taken place.
If you played 'Restrepo' at your local high school, then told the kids that they'd be given lottery tickets, and whoever 'won' got sent to that, you'd see America pulled out of Afghanistan so fast you'd wonder if we were ever there.
Perhaps older Americans remember a time when that wasn't the case. I wouldn't know. I'm just saying that for today, I'm guessing this story won't have the legs it would have 10, 20 or 30 years ago.
