The Burlington, MA, Mall was locked-down this morning after a patron screamed that there was a man carrying a rifle in the mall. Approximately 300 police and an undetermined number of local fire departments were dispatched to deal with the emergency. It was just announced that there was no gunman; just a shopper with an umbrella.
Even for the vicious, Liberal, anti-gunners in MA, this may be a record. Perhaps someone can sum-up the total $ cost in emergency services and lost business.
That will get the dog AND you shot by the cops!
wow, everyone who counts is a freeper.
I don’t see anything wrong with carrying an umbrella or a firearm for that matter. I think the cops acted pretty stupidly though.

Police are questioning the safety of a samurai sword-style umbrella that was mistaken for a rifle yesterday at the Burlington Mall, prompting shoppers to be evacuated as police called in a SWAT team.
We live in a free country, and you cant regulate everything, but common sense should tell you something that can easily be mistaken for a weapon shouldnt be sold and people shouldnt buy it, said Burlington police Lt. Glen Mills.
Bricks, pieces of pipe, rebar, 2x4s....

A mall worker could have “cleared” this in a minute. But like it’s always someone else’s fault, it’s also someone else’s responsibility, and in this case it cost quite a bit. I wonder what the total price tag was, for lost business, and scrambling all the emergency response?
The funny thing about that is Kevin James, who starred in Paul Blart, is in Quincy, Ma (just south of Boston) filming another movie. The Burlington Mall could’ve used him yesterday.
Welcome to Free Republic, by the way.
Hubby couldn't believe it --- said it looked more like the handle on a knife versus a gun.
When the newsreader said "the man wasn't arrested for this incident" --- I about died and screamed at the tv WHAT DID HE DO WRONG ??
Cannot believe there are people like this out there --- how do they ever get through the day?
Clarification on this statement --- I did not mean the man who had the umbrella --- I meant the person that called on police saying he had a gun and the newsreader who probably had to have someone explain it all to her
