I have a riddle for you.

Why are there sunspots? More importantly, why are they DARK?

Why is the Surface of the Sun at several thousand degrees and the atmosphere above it at several million degrees. According to physics, this makes no sense.

They are a cooler gas than the surrounding area.

Why is the Surface of the Sun at several thousand degrees and the atmosphere above it at several million degrees. According to physics, this makes no sense.

Radiative transfer of heat is not as efficient as convection. That is the same reason our upper atmosphere is hotter. There is no violation of physics except possibly in your understanding.
