I would recommend NOT installing system cleanup programs, just an anti-malware program and a firewall.

What version of Windows are you using? XP would probably be best for that system. How much RAM? Do you ever do a complete shut down?

Also note that MANY patches for Windows, Flash, Firefox add features or address problems, they almost never speed things up.

How do you feel about running registry cleanup programs such as CC Cleaner?

I use Malware Bytes and Nod32.

I’ve got the firewall that comes w/XP and that is the system.

I’d have to go back & find out how much RAM i have but here’s a question for you. Where do i find that out ? in simple directions.

Yes I do complete shutsdowns,too.

Agree on the patches for Windows,Flash & Firefox

Mostly I would agree. But I have been using "Tune Up Utilities" for about 6 years. I usually buy the upgrade every other year when they offer a good sale.

I have used it on several desk tops and several laptops, not once has it caused any problem after cleaning and/or defragging the registry. It has been very effective getting rid of traces of very stubborn programs that just don't like to go away after un-installation.

It has a cornucopia of tools to do all kinds of things. Very powerful software.
