My dog did not have a chip. I think implanting the chip should be based on the temperament and behavior of the dog and the beliefs of the owner.
If your dog is prone to wandering or escaping his territory, I would consider it.
If you have any religious/philosophical scruples about implanting a chip, then I would not.

Teddy is very good....never leaves the property and comes running whenever I call him.
Also he he somewhat timid and traffic scares him. So I don't think I will get the chip.

Chipping is better than seeing them hanging out at the overpass with a “Will work for food” sign.
I can’t imagine my dogs being lost, hungry, and roaming around the streets.
