Ed, only the ones with corporate logos and such on them would be considered "letters", and there's a statutory exception for such items that do not carry personal information (or even addresses).

So, yeah, they are not really yours ~ unless you can find a court ruling that declares those grocery bags to be PRODUCTS ~ which they may be, but usually, with logos and so forth on them the product would be "letters", and that flips the issue up to federal jurisdiction.

My local grocery hands out blank plastic bags. They look neater as liners in the IKEA plastic trash containers I use in my bathrooms.

Yeah, well my idiot state representative, Jason Atkinson, a Republican, is sponsoring a bill in the legislature to OUTLAW stores from giving out plastic bags! Another Republican loses sight of what freedom is all about and wants to deprive us of another legal product that they personally find offensive!

And on that, I’m sure all here will agree!
