Or do you believe that companies can require you to do things that are against state law?
Suspicion of shoplifting, yes, great..I support that. Some clerk sees you steal something, put it under your jacket and walk out, detain him! But if there is NO suspicion, then...I’ve bought the item, it’s MINE, and they have no more right to search my bags than they have the right to search my pocket, wallet or car.
Do you think they have the right to ask you to empty your pockets, open up your wallet, and give them the keys to your car and let them search that, too?

Just checking to see where receipt checking is against state law ~ in Virginia ~ and it’s not popping up. However, in Virginia if a merchant suspects you of shoplifting they can keep you for up to 1 hour awaiting the arrival of the police.
