“Shopping cart? Tell the cashier to tape or staple receipt on box. Problem solved.”
Finally, a sensible solution that would make for a win-win situation for both Walmart and its customers!
Yup I do often.
BTW how are other things in your world?
Good for you! If I ever go to a WalMart again (which I highly doubt), I’m going to do it! the only thing I want to hear as I leave a store with a purchase is ‘thank you’, ‘come again’ or ‘have a nice day’. Somehow ‘can I check your receipt’ does not make me feel like a valued customer, but apparently a lot of people think it’s just GREAT!
I'm swimming in expendable income. Puppy is chewing his way thru the house. Howz 'bout you?
“I want to know why it matters whether the child with you is your offspring, and not another child that just happens to be with you. They are asking for proof that this is your child, and I’m asking how does that matter according to the law?”
It would matter according to the law because, last I heard anyway, in Ohio a parent can provide an alcoholic beverage to their minor child, even in a bar or restaurant (something not everyone knows about).
So, if the child with you is your offspring, you can legally provide the child with an alcoholic beverage anyhow, so it doesn’t matter because they can’t do anything about it anyway.
If the child with you is not your offspring, you can not legally provide the child with an alcoholic beverage, some adults have been buying alcoholic beverages to provide to minors, they presume that’s what you are trying to do, and they want to and think they can do something about that.
Do you not understand that it is AGAINST STATE LAW??
Or do you believe that companies can require you to do things that are against state law?
Suspicion of shoplifting, yes, great..I support that. Some clerk sees you steal something, put it under your jacket and walk out, detain him! But if there is NO suspicion, then...I’ve bought the item, it’s MINE, and they have no more right to search my bags than they have the right to search my pocket, wallet or car.
Do you think they have the right to ask you to empty your pockets, open up your wallet, and give them the keys to your car and let them search that, too?

There are many other tools besides receipt checking. Security tags that sound alarms at exits, paid stickers, video cameras, security and other staff observing shoppers, making expensive or easy to steal items inaccesible without staff assistance, putting all cash registers near exit, customer pickup areas for valuable items, etc.
If store staff observes an individual picking up an item and attempting to leave without paying they would have probable cause to detain the suspect or, I suppose, ask to see a receipt.
Most stores do not check receipts and shoplifting is not putting them out of business.
Your wife's bonus will not be made on the back of my rights.
Legally and morally.
They cannot detain you without seeing you take an item, seeing you hide it, seeing you leave without paying.
Period.
Their policy doesn't mean jack.
I work for Walmart. The reason the door greeters ask for a receipt is to prevent theft. No one is trying to be intrusive, just trying to make sure there is no theft.
I’d have called the cops on him. If he wants to be an idiot, he can spend a little extra time explaining himself to ‘the man’.
