I agree—the narrator is not a likeable figure. But I know what it’s like to put a beloved friend down because nothing could be done medically to lighten their intractable pain. This did make me cry and hug my dogs. How I will cry when my beautiful, brilliant, sweet dog dies! God’s great gift to us.
It’s part of the responsibility of pet ownership. And never the most pleasant part.
