I fear the fatal overdose/DWI crash/pool drowning/you-name-it will soon follow. The culmination of a lifetime of unearned privilege and an enabling Hollywood culture where stupid, immoral behavior and unbridled arrogance are the norm and are excused as ‘a disease’, leaving the actor unaccountable. I wish no harm to Charlie Sheen but I do pity him. Lost in his haze of drugs and alcohol, Sheen is blind to the fact that his behavior is making him the opposite of what he desperately wants to be: loved and respected. Instead he is rejected, ridiculed and, inevitably, abandoned by his faux ‘friends’ and fans, alike. Poor Charlie. So rich, so famous and so lost to hubris and the Big Lie that is ‘Hollywood’.
I fear his funeral is going to be like the fictional Jay Gatsby’s. Nobody shows up besides immediate family. He doesn’t have a friend in the world that he isn’t paying for.
If an addict is cushioned by a couple hundred million bucks, and surrounded by paid sycophants, like Elvis or Michael Jackson or Anna Nichole Smith he’ll die long before he can hit bottom.
