Call the police so they will have a record.
Learned my lesson the hard way many years ago.
While staying in a seedy hotel (all my young wife and I felt we could afford and long before we owned a credit card) upon checking out and getting into our pick-up another vehicle and I backed into each other simultaneously. Being the young driver, I felt mostly responsible and paid some cash to the other driver, much older than myself and a resident of that town...
Unfortunately, I realized after departing that place that the other driver was there for either drugs or prostitution and if I had simply held my ground and insisted on going into the lobby and calling police (after taking his plate number) he probably would have been the one shelling out cash.
Learn from my mistake and always call the police in a “fender” bender.
Damn.
And document everything.
And document everything.
I would certainly notify the police, and file a traffic report, with your grandmother as witness.
Also, if you have a decent insurance company, I’d give them a heads up, too. I have an excellent relationship with my auto insurance agent, and would certainly tell her about this, just in case a claim is filed.
I had something like this happen a few years ago, but it turned out different. I opened my door and the door lightly tapped the one beside me. They guy got out and started yelling about how I had damaged his car. I wet my finger tips, reached down and wiped away the dirt that had been transferred and the damage magically disappeared. He continued to yell and threatened to call the cops and I just told him that “they don’t investigate people for touching your car”. He got back in and roared out of the parking lot screaming at me.
Take pictures of your car with a time and date stamp... if your car damaged his there would be his paint and scratches etc.
File a police report.
Insist on an investigation.
For all you know this may not be the first time he’s done this.
By having the police respond you get it on the record in case a fake tries to do a lawsuit later. It also means any security cameras can be checked.
Don’t delay, get it on record.
Unbelievable. Your entire thread has been jacked by pervs.
Yes. But they will also bump into you and take a picture withe their phone of your license plate as they speed away.
Check with the grocery and see if they have security tapes of the parking lot.
Over 45 years ago my father was involved in an accident. He immediately took out his camera and took pictures of the scene. He’s a smart guy :) The other person involved claimed the accident was my father’s fault. My father won in court because the pictures showed it couldn’t have been my father’s fault. If you don’t have a camera phone, keep a disposable camera in the glove box. I consider this an invaluable life lesson.
I shut them up by opening the door again and demonstrating that even opened as far as it could go, it didn't even *REACH* their car.
Definitely a scam.
I had this happen with a Wal-Mart security person. They claimed my then 6 year old son threw a large rock before we entered the store and damaged the back window of a car that was next to my car. She claimed they had my son on tape, but the video showed no such thing. The security person approached me at my car after we had left the store. After showing the video to me, she said they were going to turn the video over to police. Nothing ever came of it because the video didn’t show my son throwing a rock. It was just some scam that either the couple who owned the car were doing or they were all in on it—including the security person. Looking back now, I should have contacted Wal-Mart to complain, but I didn’t at the time.
Check the local businesses and see if any of them have security cameras pointed in the direction of the ‘incident’.
