Fathers used to play a major role in the selection of their daughter's husband. One reason why they were so diligent in trying to ensure that the daughter married a good man is that they didn't want the daughter showing up at some future point with her kids crying that the guy's no good and wanting Daddy to support her again.
What caused civilization was not women, it was the Patriarchy that feminists complain about.
