Odd News Conference in AZ
Fox News Channel | 1/9/11

Posted on 01/09/2011 12:17:30 PM PST by pabianice

Yesterday afternoon, a news conference was held at the hospital where Rep. Giffords was being treated. Except that the conference contained two minutes discussing Giffords and twenty minutes of doctors and administrators congratulating one another on how great they were and how heroic and how selfless they were and how oh so talented... How bizzare. Did anyone else catch this strange event?

It's not too surprising to me, I suspect that most of them have NEVER responded to a real trauma emergency of the sheer magnitude that this one was. Thus, they were all pumped up on adrenalin, HAPPY that Giffords survived, and prolly in a state of shock.

Bless them for their good work!!

They were still pumped up ~ probably hadn't slept since they first heard of the event.

This is probably the first time, and the last time, you will ever hear of any of these guys ~ and frankly, I think they did a tremendous job.

They can all get jobs in Fairfax after this ~ that's where most of your typical Congresscritters go to have important stuff done.

I go there too.

Nothing like the best.

Why in heaven’s name are you trying to slam the doctors who saved lives yesterday? Don’t like the premise of your thread. Bravo to the doctors, they were amazing and deserved their time in the sun. You’ve got a bad attitude it appears or an axe to grind.

I’ll bet they weren’t checking to see who had the best insurance before deciding who to treat.

I found it odd also. The first people Dr. Rhee thanked at the opening of the presser were the police officers who responded to the shooting. That’s weird. Eventually, he got to the paramedics who did so much to save lives.

Here's a horrible little secret...firemen love a fire...sorry it offends your sense of probity.

ER teams run disaster drills all the time. Getting to see how their hard work paid off was a shot in the arm for some people who don't get much credit for saving the lives of drunks, druggies, car wreckers...

I know a lot of folks like this. They're excited, like someone would be seeing a successful rocket launch.

“I suspect that most of them have NEVER responded to a real trauma emergency of the sheer magnitude that this one was.”

I don’t know about most of them, but I imagine Peter Rhee, M.D. has (from UMC’s site):

‘Designated surgeon on former President Clinton’s 1998 China trip; one of first trauma surgeons to be deployed to Camp Rhino, Afghanistan; started first surgical unit in Ramadi, Iraq.

Recipient of numerous awards and honors, including Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medal.

Consultant to Office of Naval Research, and Marine Corps Commandants War Fighting Laboratory.’

Question: Why weren’t police officers AT THE SHOOTING?

If they were, they were shooting at a bunch of civilians sitting on the perp waiting for the police to come get him.

I am glad that the neurosurgeons successfully saved the life of Gabby.

Nothing strange about that. People are hot for their few seconds of fame these days, so when events conspire to give it to them they run with the ball.

Me too. I was also glad to hear that Rhee was honest enough to mention “luck” as one of the key factors in her survival of a gun shot wound to the head.

I saw part of that conference - the medical part. Did you notice Dr. Rhee was wearing a camo headcovering?

I was suprised at how little talk there was of the other people who were killed by the deranged, evil possessed sob who pulled the trigger
