That's one angle. Another is that we're naively vulnerable on a lot of fronts. A sudden onset mini-ice age, which is certainly geologically possible, could take as little time as a few months to paralyze, for example, the West Coast and all its agriculture; energy production would have to become a priority to prevent huge human death counts. We're only ever an easily conceivable event away from being "reduced to grubbing for bugs and worms to eat." We take much for granted.
