Yes, they were not really called “shaman” but were Kay-gay or “Doctor”. They were healers. Rare but there were a few men that became Kay-gay (pergerk) (Doctor-man). There are still a few of our women doctors around today, very rare though. Women were not second class citizens in our tribe. True the men made the big decisions about tribal ways but they did not leave the women's input out of the decision. Also the women were the boss of the everyday life and the household. They also were allowed to sing and dance in some of the ceremonial rites.
