Dec. 12: New York Jets assistant Sal Alosi apologized after blatantly tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during Gang Green's 10-6 loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

The strength and conditioning coach was ushered out of New Meadowlands Stadium by a staff member, ignoring interview requests by the New York Post and protected by two security members at an exit.

After the Jets confirmed he was the guilty tripper and the NFL announced it was reviewing the play, Alosi apologized.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment," Alosi said in a statement, adding that he apologized to Carroll and Dolphins coach Tony Sparano. < -- snip -- >

This guy trips a player who is running out of bounds. The guy didn’t move more than 6 inches so the player was as much at fault as him.

You rant about wanting the coach fired but make excuses for someone like Vick.

He barely stuck his knee out at all, didn’t clip the Dolphin player’s knee, who merely lost his balance had his feet come together and fell. Boo hoo. Molehill = Mountain thatnks to crybabies.

Since he was out of bounds wouldn't that cause a penalty had he touched the ball on the punt?

Caroll was a gunner on a punt. TWO Jets players pushed him out of bounds as he started running downfield. It is normal for gunners to get pushed out, and make their way back in bounds.

If you watch the video both Jets players stand over Caroll briefly waiting for him to try to get up.

The Dolphins player has NOTHING to learn from this.

Coaches, at every level, in every sport, have a very clear line they cannot cross. They cannot touch a player, especially an opposing player, during play.

I wonder if those 5 guys were placed there to try and disrupt the gunners during punts.

I just saw the video- and the player was so far out of bounds he almost ran over the coach.

The coach could easily say he was just reacting to almost being run over, if it was no so obvious he meant it

If he had not moved his leg he might have been hit anyway

Vick is paid for his crimes; he served time in prison. Also, I saw a story that he only gets about $4700 a month out of his salary until he repays those he owes money.

Kinda hard to pay restitution to a dead dog.

He should be banned from Professional Sports forever. Just as Pete Rose was humiliated so should Vick he did the crime and because he has a certain color skin all is forgiven.

Vick has paid his debt to society but I don’t believe he should have been allowed to return. Nobody has a right to play in the NFL. Being a QB in the NFL is different than a normal job. Like it or not, kids look up to Pro players. Tripping a guy is not as bad as brutally killing dogs in my view. Why all the outrage over this incident?

You only brace yourself on the sideline if you are surprised or you are trying to stop someone who is running laterally and has too much momentum.

You don't LEAN INTO an opposing gunner running full speed that you clearly see coming.

You take a step back.

It's easy. I do it all the time in high school athletics, no matter the score or what I think of the other team.

Lost in this conversation is this fact: Sally Knees was the designated coach (to the refs) responsible for keeping coaches and players back from the field of play.

I really can't believe there are apologists out there for this crap. I could understand more if it was the head coach and you thought he was too important to lose. But a strength coach who no one ever heard of is important enough to warp moral convictions? Amazing.

Good point. If the coach had just given a blank “It was a complete acciddent” Bart Simpson approach, I’ll bet he could have brazened it out.

If he was worried about a player running into him, maybe he should have stepped back a foot or two.

You have a point, and it’s one that most people choose to ignore.

Players in the NFL are role models. Heck, their pictures are on the walls of teenage kids. Youngsters often wear their jerseys to school. It’s not the same as being a grocery store clerk or a bus driver.

I’m not saying that ex-felons should be banned from the NFL.

But I am saying that when this devolves into ex-felons and accused rapists playing against other ex-felons and accused rapists, that’s bad for society.

As long as they are off the playing field who cares? Or are you suggesting the players should be allowed to run wherever they want. perhaps we should start making passes into the stands. It sure would be more exciting for the crowd.

Not condoning what he did, but why on earth would the Miami player be running outside the sidelines heading right toward 5 guys standing in the way? Not a smart move on his part.
